Velká Amerika (Grand America) refers to a partially flooded limestone quarry located near the village of Mořina. A yellow hiking trail, approximately 3 km long, leads directly from Mořina to the edges of the abandoned quarries, where you can enjoy truly breathtaking scenery. The quarry resembles an American canyon, but its name was not derived from its appearance, but from the method of former limestone mining. When you look into the canyon, you will surely recall a scene from the film Lemonade Joe, which was filmed here. The Mexiko, Malá Amerika (Little America) and Velká Amerika quarries, located in close proximity, still attract many adventurers, and although entry is strictly prohibited, there have been a number of fatal accidents.
